What We Do

Advanced Marksmanship
Our advanced marksmanship training prepares the operator for the demands of the tactical environment by teaching a wide variety of firing positions that allow more team flexibility in position setup, and stresses the importance of “hasty” positions. We also introduce students to specialized tools that support their mission requirements. The techniques we teach are a combination of the best methods we have gleaned from working with the world’s top special operations professionals, as well as a few new ones which have been validated by extensive testing and field application. All methods taught are selected based upon real-world application and value for use in the field environment.

Advanced Ballistics
We instruct students in our own proprietary method of ballistics and wind calculations as well as ballistics data collection methods. Our methods for ballistic calculation are easier and more accurate than any other system we have seen. These ballistics training and calculation methods provided are based upon 7 years of independent research, and validated by over 15,000 rounds of live-fire. Our SOP’s address changes in internal ballistics as well as external ballistics. This research was conducted specifically to determine the causes and solutions to many problems encountered by snipers such as:
  • Poor cold barrel accuracy
  • Shifting zeroes
  • “Wild” shots out of the group
  • Shifts in impact as barrels heat
  • Lost zeros after storage or travel
  • Loss of accuracy or zero after cleaning
  • Poor ballistic repeatability for long-range shots (unreliable dope), especially from a cold barrel
  • Commonly published and taught ballistic formulas that do not work
  • Conflicting ballistics formulas from different sources
  • Conflicting maintenance methodologies from different experts

The research into these problems has been extensive and is still ongoing. Consultations have been made with top barrel makers, metallurgists, NASA physicists, 1000 yard bench-rest champions, and ballistics experts from several bullet and ammunition manufacturers. All of our amassed research data (and graciously offered input from the premier subject matter experts in the field) have resulted in a series of ground-breaking proprietary processes which are included in our courses of instruction. These include:

  • Diagnostic procedures to determine if, when, and why your rifle shifts impact (internal or external ballistics vs. harmonics / metallurgy) and how to predict it
  • Zeroing methods that use the best statistical model for accuracy, and provide for cold and hot barrel impact points
  • The best bore storage condition to yield to most accurate and consistent cold-bore shot, and a maintenance procedure to give snipers the most accurate, predictable zero possible; at any range and under any condition
  • Data collection techniques that yield the best downrange “dope"
  • A comprehensive ballistics lecture based on the best scientific data, tailored for sniper applications
  • Ballistic adjustment factors that work in any temperature, altitude or combination of factors, unlike older “book” formulas
  • Trajectory / impact adjustments for temperature which are based on powder burn rate as well as air density (not included in ballistic software and PDA programs)
  • The “Super Dope Card” that is customized with your data and adjustment factors; a whole data book on one card; adjusts for conditions anywhere, faster and easier than PDA’s
  • New, more accurate slope cosines that are based on real ballistics, not simple angle geometry
  • Wind reading and doping techniques that work
  • Methods for conducting regional or site specific “Wind Studies”
  • New lead methods for higher hit ratios on moving targets
  • Offset aiming techniques for helicopter firing and other moving platforms
  • New methods of range card prep and planning, including pre-plotting avenues of movement, leads and holds
  • Creating permanent “Perch Packages” for regular over-watch / firing positions as integrated into a site-specific tactical response plan
  • How to apply the “Natural Function of Angles” to wind and moving target leads

Our ballistics calculation methods adjust for the internal ballistics changes that occur with environmental change, not just the atmospheric change predicted by computer software programs. These methods are the most advanced available, yet are not difficult to understand or execute and do not require a computer or PDA in the field.

The data collection techniques use statistical significance and inexpensive commercially available measurement devices to extract a tremendous amount of information in a short amount of time. They can be done in as little as 40 shots, and will yield not only trajectory information, but important accuracy performance information about your rifle from both cold barrel and hot. The data collection methods are faster, more accurate and engineered to minimize the risk of user error in recording and interpreting live-fire information. These methods also provide excellent documentation for use in court if required.

Advanced Tactical Training

We provide training in both command level team employment, and team level operational SOP’s. Our training is current and relevant, being based on lessons learned from current events. Our field training is tailored to give the highest degree of realism possible. Our programs can be tailored to the specific needs of the client agencies, with specialized training blocks such as helo platform, hostage rescue, night ops, moving over-watch, etc.

What We Don't Do

Physically or Mentally Harass Students

In our experience, a student’s ability to uptake technical information and commit lessons to memory is hindered by excessive physical stress and constant distraction. While our courses are physically challenging, we do not add additional physical stress such as PT tests, or attempt to judge the physical abilities of the students by our own arbitrary standards. Physical standards are the sole responsibility of the student’s agency. We do not haze or harass students during the course. Our schedule however, is carefully crafted to ensure that there is almost no down-time during the course, and training intensity is maintained from start to finish. Time taken to PT or harass students is considered time lost from learning important skills. Ability to handle mental stress is evaluated both by written test, and a final shooting exercise requiring a 100% score for a graduation certificate. Stress is naturally induced by the difficulty of the task, and the time constraints imposed for its execution.

Accept Money to Promote Products in Our Courses

The Ballistic Edge will not advocate, demonstrate, or require any student to use any item or product in return for payment by any manufacturer of the product. Any equipment shown or recommended will be included because of its value and our belief that it will genuinely assist and enhance the ability of clients to perform their required duties.

TBE will not disclose the names of client agencies without the express permission of the agency to do so.

Deliver less than we promise

Each course is meticulously planned so that all curriculum is covered in detail. No down-time is allowed so students never waste time between events.
